Official Bot Colony _REDUX Trailer Released

Today, North Side Inc. released both the official trailer and a new gameplay trailer for Bot Colony Redux.

Language is one of the core gameplay mechanics of Bot Colony Redux, and making the game playable in multiple languages — or even a mix of two languages — opens the door to creative, funny, and natural interactions for players around the world.

Bot Colony Redux is a multilingual sci-fi adventure where players can speak or type naturally to robots in English or 10 other languages. Play entirely in English — or mix languages for fun. Want to interrogate a robot in Korean, flirt badly in Spanish, argue in Russian, or switch between Portuguese and English mid-conversation? Go for it. The robots can switch too, which has already created some gloriously weird and hilarious moments during testing.

North Side will also be running another full-game Playtest soon as the team prepares for Early Access. Players can sign up through the Discord Community.

Note: Multilingual gameplay is not shown in the trailers; players will need to participate in the Playtest to experience it directly.

The team has been hard at work preparing the game for larger-scale testing, including:

  • Checkpoints across all episodes
  • Improved streaming and responsiveness
  • Humanity Tests with upgraded lip sync and facial animation
  • Two playable Intruder missions
  • Expanded Arrival episode content
  • Emotive AI-powered character voices
  • Real-time lighting improvements
  • Stealth-shooter gameplay elements

Bot Colony Redux combines immersive storytelling, real-time conversation, and AI-driven characters in ways North Side believes players have not experienced before.

About North Side

North Side is an independent game development studio based in Montreal. The company unveiled the original Bot Colony prototype at GDC in March 2009.

Bot Colony was the first video game to use situated language — language that references objects and entities in a 3D environment — as a core gameplay mechanic. North Side also pioneered a full natural-language-understanding pipeline for games, including parsing, disambiguation, coreference resolution, reasoning, and dialogue management to support more interactive conversations with virtual characters. Other pioneering language-driven games such as Sony/Konami’s Lifeline, Sega’s Seaman, and Façade explored different approaches to conversational interaction.

Originally promoted with the slogan “AI that talks!”, Bot Colony was conceived as an immersive speech-driven adventure game for PC. Today, the team is developing Bot Colony Redux, a multilingual sci-fi experience that combines LLMs, speech-to-text, emotive text-to-speech, and Unreal Engine technology to create immersive conversational gameplay.
